The Scoop on the Second Annual Metro Brokers Triathlon

Interviewer: I'm Kathy Soltero with Metro Brokers TV. Today in the studio we have Mike Bradley. He is the broker owner of Metro Brokers Eagle View Properties and today he is going to be talking to us about our Metro Brokers Triathlon. Tell me about, first of all Mike, what is Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday all about?

Mike Bradley: Well Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday is in its second year this year and will be held on June 4, 2010 at Cherry Creek State Park. It's a sprint-distance triathlon which means it's a half-mile swim, a 12-mile bike and three-mile run, followed by a catered dinner and a party.

Interviewer: It sounds like a great time.

Mike Bradley: It is.

Interviewer: Why is Metro Brokers hosting a triathlon?

Mike Bradley: We wanted to kind of gear our events towards a younger market and really show that Metro Brokers is a Colorado-based company and we have good ties into the community. So we stepped away from the golf tournament atmosphere, where it's closed off and there is 60 people play all day. A triathlon allows us to open up state-wide, even expand outside the borders of the state, get that new audience and show them that we are unique, but we are here for Colorado and hundreds of participants come and do a triathlon and then the word spreads, and year and year it just gets bigger. So it seemed like a natural fit.

Interviewer: And last year there were how many of them?

Mike Bradley: Almost 200.

Interviewer: That is amazing for a first year.

Mike Bradley: Just for a first year. Yes.

Interviewer: That is - so you expect a lot more this year?

Mike Bradley: We are hoping to have at least 300.

Interviewer: Wow! That would be huge.

Mike Bradley: We are on pace to do that right now.

Interviewer: All right, well what makes this Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday so unique, you talked about its uniqueness?

Mike Bradley: Yeah, the thing that really makes it unique is that it's on a Friday. It's 6 p.m. on Friday versus all the other triathlons, pretty much crack of dawn. You got to get up at four in the morning, get your bike on the car get out to wherever it is. This allows you to work all day or work a half day...

Interviewer: And then go to triathlon.

Mike Bradley: And do triathlon, then you got your whole weekend free. And then we follow it up with a full catered dinner from our fantastic sponsor, Lodo's Bar & Grill. They bring out burgers and hot dogs and there is beer and it's a party atmosphere. So you get all done and then you got the rest of the weekend. And that's one of the coolest things about this event, plus it's one of the very first triathlons of the entire season. June 4th puts us, I think, the very first open water triathlon in the Denver Metro area of the year. There is some the very next day, but we are the very first ones with an early season.

Interviewer: That's awesome.

Mike Bradley: It's great and its tri, go ahead.

Interviewer: Okay, so now if somebody wants to register for it, where they can go?

Mike Bradley: MetroBrokersTriathlon.com, everything is online. You can either, print out the registration form, mail it in or go online and do it right there. It's very easy, all the information, the race maps, all our sponsors and everything is linked up right there.

Interviewer: What's also so great is you said Friday it starts and then you have the rest of your weekend. It sounds like a great time. Is there anything else you want people to know about it?

Mike Bradley: The other thing, the most common question's probably about the temperature of the water.

Interviewer: It will be chilly, right.

Mike Bradley: It is, outside temperate is about 80 degrees in June. You never know, in Colorado we could have tornadoes one day and then 90 degrees the next. But the most common question is, what's the temperature of the water? And it's cold. It's 58 degrees last year, was the temperature.

Interviewer: It's invigorating, right?

Mike Bradley: It certainly is. So it can also lead to problems, so we've partnered with WetSuitRental.com to get discounts on wet suits. And it's not a requirement at that temperature surprisingly, but it's highly recommended that you have a wet suit, and so we got that discount, so now it's at least warm and safe.

Interviewer: All right, so if you are interested in going out to the Metro Brokers Triathlon Friday it's June 4th, coming right around the corner.

Mike Bradley: That's 75 days away.

Interviewer: And you can go register online. It's really easy.

Mike Bradley: Exactly.

Interviewer: Thank you so much, Mike, for joining us today at Metro Brokers TV.

Mike Bradley: Okay, thank you.
